You probably know Sophia, the humanoid robot built by Hanson Robotics. What you might not know is that it will have a little sister called Little Sophia. It can walk, talk, sing, play games and, like her big sister, tell jokes. Little Sophia can be programmed in Blockly and Python. The good news is that […]
We have great news! We will offer a new science curriculum for advanced students. If your child is not yet an advanced student, it will likely be in their third year of studying Robotics. The way it works is this: if they started this year, let’s say in 2019, they would become intermediate students from […]
Recently, Brisbane, Australia, hosted the 34th edition of the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), the world’s most significant robotics event, organised by IEEE. Our staff attended the Education Forum and enjoyed the opportunity to network with teachers and suppliers from around the world.
Australia has the potential to tap into a $2 trillion opportunity through automation and generate millions of jobs that are safer, more fulfilling, and higher in value. According to a study by AlphaBeta, a Sydney-based economic strategy firm, automation is expected to free up an average of 2 hours per week from manual and repetitive […]
The precision and consistency of robots make them an attractive option for many industries. These machines can increase production efficiency and profit margins by completing tasks more quickly than human workers. Additionally, robots can operate 24/7 without the need for breaks, vacations, or sick days, and they make fewer mistakes, saving companies time. In the […]
Who invented the word “robot,” and what does it mean? Some people think it was Karel Čapek, a Czech novelist and playwright. But, contrary to popular opinion, Karel Čapek, the author of the play R.U.R., is not the inventor of the word robot. The word, derived from the Czech noun “robota”, meaning “forced labour”, is […]
Despite Australia “punching above its weight” in artificial intelligence (AI) research, the country is failing to embrace the technology in the business sector. Within the next five to 10 years, Professor Toby Walsh envisions Australian businesses using autonomous cars, buses, trucks, and robot advisors. “In research terms, I think we punch above our weight,” the […]
The history of robots dates back to the ancient world. Concepts akin to a robot can be found as long ago as the 4th century BCE when the Greek mathematician Archytas of Tarentum postulated a mechanical bird he called “The Pigeon” propelled by steam. Leonardo da Vinci made one of the first recorded designs of […]
What does the academy mean, and where does it come from? The ancient Greek historian Plutarch wrote that the Athenian king Theseus (the slayer of the Minotaur) abducted the beautiful 12-year-old Helen of Troy (long before she married Menelaus, met Paris and was the cause of the Trojan War). Due to this outrage, her twin brothers Castor […]
