Drone Coding for Kids in Adelaide: A New STEM Course at ARCSA

Are drones just toys? At Adelaide Robotics and Computer Science Academy (ARCSA), we believe there’s something more: a powerful, hands-on way to teach kids real programming skills, engineering concepts, and critical thinking.

That’s why we’ve launched Adelaide’s newest course in drone coding for kids, right here in Lockleys.

🚁 What Is Drone Coding?

In our new Drones Course for students aged 9–18, they go beyond just flying. They learn to write code that controls flight missions, all using DroneBlocks, a STEM-focused coding platform used by schools across Australia and the United States.

With DroneBlocks, students start with drag-and-drop programming (similar to Scratch or Swift Playgrounds). As their skills progress, they level up to real-world languages like Python, writing code that controls altitude, movement, loops, and even logic-based automation.

All drone activity is conducted indoors using classroom-safe drones, making it suitable year-round.

Learning to code drones helps kids:

Learn programming fundamentals in a tangible, exciting way

No prior coding experience is needed.

ARCSA is Adelaide’s specialist STEM education centre for young people aged 8–18. We’ve been teaching robotics and coding for over a decade using internationally recognised curricula from Carnegie Mellon University, DroneBlocks, and more.

Our mission is to help students explore technology creatively and confidently, and drone coding is one of the best ways to start.
