Robotics with Python: A New Course at ARCSA
We’re excited to announce a brand-new addition to our curriculum: the Robotics with Python Course, launching in Term 4, 2025, at ARCSA’s new home in Lockleys. This one-year program is designed for students who are ready to take their coding and robotics skills to the next level.
Why Python and Robotics?
Python has become the world’s most popular programming language , simple to learn, yet powerful enough to run everything from apps to AI. By pairing Python with real robots and drones, students don’t just write code; they see their logic come alive through motion, sensors, and smart decisions.
What Students Will Learn
The course blends coding fundamentals with hands-on engineering challenges. Students begin with Python basics, then progress to advanced projects involving LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robots and DJI Tello drones.
Highlights include:
- Python coding skills: variables, loops, functions, classes, and data structures.
- Robotics projects: maze navigation, robo soccer, colour sorters, search & rescue, self-balancing robots, and more.
- Drone programming: keyboard flight, aerial mapping, face tracking, gesture recognition, and AI-driven traffic analysis.
- Artificial intelligence: an introduction to computer vision and smart decision-making.
The ARCSA Difference
At ARCSA, our Robotics Curriculum is grounded in Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Academy — a global leader in STEM education. Students don’t just learn theory; they solve real-world challenges that build problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation skills.
