What Exactly Is An Academy?
An academy, derived from the ancient Greek 'Academia,' is fundamentally a place of learning or a school. The term originates from Akademos, an Athenian local whose olive tree orchard, called Academia, was later chosen by the philosopher Plato to deliver lectures. This historical context led to the phrase 'the garden of Academe' and linked Akademos’ name to Plato’s Academy, the Hekademeia, outside Athens. Today, academies function as educational institutions globally, including the Adelaide Robotics Academy in South Australia. (Wikipedia)
